PW Falls to Old Gaelic in MAC Semifinals

PW vs Old Gaelic 4-26-14

In a hard-fought match at the MAC semifinals on Saturday, PW fell to Old Gaelic 38-29. Despite beating OG in three previous meetings this year, PW could not pull out the win this time.

PW went on to play a consolation match on Sunday, roundly defeating Happy Valley 73-31. Old Gaelic would lose to the Washington Renegades in their bid to be Division III champs. The Renegades now travel to Pittsburgh for the Division III Round of 8, May 17-18.

"It was definitely a heart breaker," Club Captain Bob Haller said of the loss to Old Gaelic. "We had a strong week of training, and we knew not to be overconfident from our past meetings with Old Gaelic. Even starting out strong with a try on one of our designed plays, we couldn't get the ball rolling downhill for our attack. We shot ourselves in the foot time and time again.

"All in all, I'm very proud of the team.. pushing through injuries and other club guys stepping out when called on. I'm very proud to be the captain of this team."

The 2014 NCR4s Semifinals were Hosted by Wilmington RFC and took place at Alapocas Run State Park, 4351 Weldin Road, Wilmington DE 19803.
